Millie, the Only Kangaroo in the Whole ME/CFS Universe

The South Australian State Committee has the frequent pleasure of being joined at meetings by Emma Wing’s joey, Millie.

Emma volunteers at an animal shelter and has been rearing Millie for eighteen months.

Here are a few words from Emma about Millie:

Millie is a Western Grey Kangaroo who was rescued by a man after he saw her on the side of a railway track. It is presumed that her mother was hit by a train. She weighed 1.45 kilos.

Millie is now 18 months old and we have had her 12 months. She can never be released back to the wild because in SA it is illegal to release a hand-raised orphan.

Millie is small for her age, and she should be bigger than she is. We have had trouble keeping her weight on, however the past 3 months she is finally putting weight on and keeping it on. She now weighs almost 7 kilos.

She has 2 bottles a day and in between she eats Capra, Meadow Hay, Bananas, Granita and YoYo biscuits and chaff.

She plays around the house with our 2 little dogs, she even tries and boxes one of our dogs. She always wins!!!!

Millie's favourite past time is eating, eating and more eating and she loves laying on the lounge or in bed with us.

Eventually Millie will go outside fulltime but at the moment we all love having her jumping around the house.
