Huge rise in fibromyalgia in Grimsby area and nobody knows what causes it

The 'hidden' illness that leads to unexplained widespread pain has seen cases soar

The number of people in the North East Lincolnshire suffering from fibromyalgia - a condition causing unexplained widespread pain - has soared in recent years, new NHS figures suggest.

While data on the condition remains limited, the health service does track the number of times fibromyalgia is seen in hospital patients.

There were 1,470 times in 2018/19 when patients in our area were admitted with either a primary or secondary diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

That compared to 1,070 cases as recently as 2014/15, when recent figures begin.

The number has been rising rapidly ever since.
