"I want to tell people with ME that there is hope"

6:33PM, MON 14 JUL 2014

Emma Donohoe, 20, was a keen dancer until she was diagnosed with ME four years ago.

Her health had declined suddenly and she was left feeling exhausted and ill. The illness, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, can cause long-term disability.

Emma said at times, she felt like giving up.

However, she has now begun to recover, an improvement she puts down to a positive attitude, a healthy diet and yoga. Emma joined ITV Fixers to spread the message that it is possible to recover.

ME/CFS can be triggered by an infection or by other factors, but no one really knows what causes it.

Symptoms include:

  • physical and mental exhaustion
  • poor memory and concentration
  • sleeping problems
  • pain including painful lymph nodes, stomach pain or sore throat
  • digestive problems
  • depression, irritability or panic attacks
  • sensitivity to light, loud noises, alcohol or certain foods
