Opinion: Prayer and Chronic Fatigue

October 26, 2005

Naomi Flanagan has written an article for Australian Catholics entitled, “A Daily Exercise in Faith,” about living with a chronic illness.

She writes:

“Prayer has changed for me in the course of living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome over the last eleven years of feeling disconnected from people and life, as well as unproductive and worthless. Becoming suddenly so unwell was such a shock to my system that my initial prayer was one of desperation, ‘get me out of here and make me better.’ I had been an active student, a keen sportswoman and a leader in my final year of school. After some time, my experience led me to stop trying so hard to connect with a God outside of my world.”
