Invitation to comment on EPA draft Code of practice

November 25, 2004

The South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA), in conjunction with representatives from industry groups, state and local government bodies, is seeking comment on the draft Code of practice for environmentally responsible pesticide use.

The code covers all pesticides used in South Australia for any purpose. It describes ‘what’ a person is required to do when using pesticides. It is intended that the code of practice will help users comply with their obligations under environmental and other legislation and encourage the environmentally responsible use of pesticides.

To support the code the EPA is also preparing pesticide guidelines. These provide practical advice on ‘how’ to carry out activities in a way that minimises the risk of harm to the environment. Comment on the draft guidelines will be sought when they are completed.

The draft code can be downloaded from the EPA’s website at www.epa.sa.gov.au/pdfs/cop_pesticides.pdf. Printed copies are also available from the contact below.

The closing date for submissions on the code of practice is January 5, 2005. Submissions can be emailed, faxed or posted to the address below: email submissions are preferred. Comments can also be submitted online at www.epacomments.sa.gov.au.

Please send your submissions to:
