Students raise over £1,400 with charity waxing event

By Charlotte Neal, Reporter

THEY endured a rather hairy experience, and helped Hampshire beauty students raise over £1,400 for charity.

Around 20 male volunteers agreed to have their legs, chests and backs waxed by Eastleigh College beauty students, as part of a fundraiser for Fibromyalgia Association UK [FMA UK] and ME Research UK.

They included staff, students and family members of the students, and lecturer Vanessa Parker recently announced the total and presented the cheques to charity representatives.

She said: “We are delighted to welcome Jayne and Sue to the college to accept the cheques. It’s great for the students to learn how their fundraising money will be used.”

The money will be put towards vital research for both charities that operate purely on donations.

Jayne Wallace, group leader from FMA UK, said: “Efforts like this are essential to our activities. Thank you to the girls, and the men for putting themselves through hell in the aid of good causes.”

Sue Waddle, vice chairman of ME Research UK, also thanked the college for their efforts.
