Waltz against fatigue

WHAT goes around comes around for the Windsor Seniors Dance Club.

Today [Friday 22 April] the club will host a charity dance of “waltzes, saunters, rumbas and blues” as a fundraiser for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Australia.

Club secretary Kathy Sinnott said the club “thought Good Friday would be a lovely time to do it ... on a day that might otherwise be lonely ... so we hope we get a good turnout,” she said.

Mrs Sinnott’s daughter has ME/CFS. “There are so many worthwhile causes and you can’t begrudge any of them their dollar ... but I really felt ME/CFS was very much underfunded,” Mrs Sinnott said.

“We also hope to raise awareness, because there’s so much misunderstanding of what the illness is in the community.”

ME/CFS is a persistent fatigue with other symptoms, such as muscle and joint pain and weakness, or light, sound and smell sensitivity, sustained over six months or more, in a previously healthy, active person.

Mrs Sinnott said all were invited to the dance: “We welcome younger members.” The event will include a light afternoon tea, and no partner is required.

The dance is April 22, 12.30-3.30pm, in the RSL hall at 301 High St, Prahran.

Cost: $10 per person. RSVP: 9311 1354.
